Frequently Asked Questions
The Wake Forest Catholic Campus Ministry (WFCCM) is an active student organization at Wake Forest University with frequent programs and worship opportunities. Find answers below to questions you may have, and please know that you can always reach out to us at any time with additional questions.
Do you have Mass on campus?
Yes! We celebrate Masses every Sunday during the academic year at Wake. Our usual Sunday schedule is 10:30 AM, 4:30PM, and 6:00PM in Davis Chapel. There are also regular opportunities for daily Mass, Reconciliation, and Adoration. Take a look at our calendar here.
Do you have a priest on campus?
We are fortunate to have Father David McCanless as our full-time, on-campus priest. He is a priest of the Diocese of Charlotte AND is an alum of Wake Forest. Fr. David loves working with the students on campus and always has his door open to anyone wanting to chat, pray, or share a meal in the Pit!
Is there a big Catholic community at Wake?
You might be surprised to know that Catholic students make up the largest single faith community at Wake! Around 25% of the approximate 5,500 undergrads at Wake identify as Catholic. We routinely see around 200 students each weekend for Mass, and many are regular participants in our other activities.
What kinds of activities does WFCCM offer?
In addition to Mass and worship opportunities, WFCCM has events and programs throughout the year, including but not limited to: Weekly dinners (Wednesdays, 6pm), Small groups and Bible studies, Intramural Teams, Campus Traditions (Hit the Bricks, Project Pumpkin, Pitsgiving, Love Feast, Wake N Shake), and more!
Is there a Catholic center on campus?
While we do not have a standalone Catholic Center, WFCCM has lounge space in the basement of Collins Residence Hall. You will often find students here studying or hanging out with friends on the evenings, weekends, or between classes. Our small groups and Bible studies are typically held in the lounge as well. There are always free snacks available, as well as an espresso machine and a Keurig and tea station to satisfy all the caffeine needs for our students. The lounge is accessed by Deacon One card, so be sure to register with WFCCM to get lounge access! (Building 16)
Masses and other liturgical offerings are typically celebrated in Davis Chapel. (Building 1)
Please know that if you need to find Fr. David or any of our staff, our offices are NOT located in the WFCCM Lounge, but rather the Campus Ministry Office located in the basement of Kitchin Residence Hall. (Building 22) Let us know if you ever want a tour of any of our facilities.

What is FOCUS?
FOCUS is the Fellowship of Catholic Undergraduate Students, a national campus ministry movement that focuses (no pun intended) on helping college students seek meaning and purpose at this critical point in their lives. FOCUS Catholic missionaries bring students the light of truth and lead them on the path to a strong adult faith through small group Bible studies, intentional community formation, and on-campus engagement.
How do I become part of the Wake Forest Catholic Campus Ministry?
WFCCM is always welcoming new students and we’re excited to meet you! Unlike some other student organizations on campus, WFCCM is always open membership. Whether you’re an undergrad or graduate student, or whether you’re Catholic or not, we welcome people from all walks of campus – comm majors, business school majors, athletes, Greek life, etc! You can join or be a part of WFCCM just by attending a Mass, coming to an event, or joining a small group.
If you’re not part of our mailing list yet, please subscribe so you can get weekly emails with announcements and happenings. You can also join our roster on The Link.
Can I become a leader for WFCCM?
Students who are actively involved with WFCCM are invited to join the Leadership Team as Exec Board members or Committee members. The Exec Board consists of the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary and is the university-facing part of WFCCM. The Committee (Spiritual Engagement and Community Engagement) members are ministry-facing and focus on WFCCM events on and off campus.
What if I’m not Catholic?
The Wake Forest Catholic Campus Ministry is open to all students! If you are interested in learning more about the Church or joining through the OCIA program, please contact Jenn for more information!
What if I haven’t completed my sacraments yet?
If you are already Catholic, but you have not entered into full communion with the Catholic Church (meaning you haven’t received your First Communion or Confirmation), we can help you prepare for your sacraments! Each year, we welcome students into full communion with the Church at our Easter Mass. Please contact Fr. David or Jenn for more information.
Can I get involved as a parent, faculty, staff, or alumni?
We would love for you to get involved! We encourage faculty and staff to participate in our on-campus events, including Mass, as it’s always nice for students to be able to interact with you outside of class. At times, there are volunteer opportunities in which you can serve our students. If you’re a parent or alumni, please subscribe to our mailing list or reach out to us at anytime, especially whenever you come on campus. Fr. David and our staff love to meet our families.
The Wake Forest Catholic Campus Ministry is a fully self-funded ministry. We rely on our donors to fund our programs, events, supplies, and personnel. Our only financial support from Wake Forest University comes from the Student Organization Financial Office in small, annual budget allocations split among all student organizations. And unlike parishes that have weekly income from collections, our congregation is comprised of students with limited ability to give at this time in their lives. If you would like to get involved by becoming a donor, please support our Annual Fund or see our other ways to give. In addition, you are always able to designate to WFCCM any time you make a gift to the university. Please reach out to Jenn if you have any questions!
